AYURVEDA: THE HERITAGE OF HEALING
For over 3000 years, Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of living, has addressed itself to the fundamental principles of good health and longevity. It has developed a tradition of medicine and a system of treatment based on the inherent ability of the human body to rejuvenate, to heal and to restore its natural balance. It seeks to strengthen and enhance the body's own healing processes - to help the body help itself.

This website shares the millennia of Ayurvedic experience of preventing and effectively treating over 100 common and not-so-common ailments, using time proven concepts of regulated diet and a healthy lifestyle, supported with remedies and treatments that are safe, effective and affordable.

AYURVEDA: THE SCIENCE OF LIFE
Ayurveda literally means " the science of life". It is a Sanskrit word, derived from two roots: ayus and vid, meaning "life" and "knowledge". Ayus are daily life cycles that represent the body, the senses, the mind, and the soul. Veda is knowledge of our world and how everything within it works. The great rishis (seers or wise men) of ancient India discovered Veda and found that it contained the secrets of sickness and health. From there, they organized the sophisticated science of living known as Ayurveda, which takes into consideration the many physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual elements of life that are necessary for health and well being. For this reason, Ayurveda is holistic, meaning that it addresses whole health, or health on every level.

AYURVEDA: THE MOTHER OF MEDICINES
Ayurveda, the "science of longevity", promotes positive health, natural beauty and long life. This science was first recorded around 2500 years ago. Although rooted in antiquity, Ayurveda is based on universal principles and is a living, growing body of knowledge - as useful today as it was in centuries past.

Traditional Ayurveda fits quite well into modern models of holistic healing, concerned with a broad view of the total health of individual: physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Many of Ayurveda's healing regiments have been adopted and refined by peoples all over the world. This may be the reason why it is considered the "mother of all medicines".

Herbal Medicine! The 21st century medicine
Health care everywhere is undergoing great change as many people realize that there is more to health than being physically fit and well fed. Innovative techniques in surgery and 'miracle' drugs improve many lives but continuing chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, arthritis, cancer, allergies, emotional and mental disturbance, are the fate of many more. Ayurveda has a great deal to offer. With this different approach to illness, Ayurvedacan often help patients with diseases generally considered incurable by conventional medicine.

What is the potential of Ayurveda?
Ayurveda offers a method of maintaining health and preventing illness. It is a subtle but effective therapy that can correct small imbalances long before the appearance of the more serious symptoms, which denote a particular disease. It is not necessary for a patient to wait for a conventional diagnosis before treatment can commence. Much illness can be 'nipped in the bud' and the patient swiftly restored to health before a more serious disease appears. People who have had Ayurvedic treatment generally find that their state of health and well being has improved. They are better able to resist infection and have a greater sense of stability and individual purpose in life. These improvements surely are steps towards real health.

What are Herbal Medicines?
The remedies which patient use come from many different sources. Most are derived from plants, but minerals, metals and some poisons which have been used medicinally for generations are also used. After initial preparation of the raw material the remedies are made by serial dilution and succession (vigorous shaking) in a solution. This is done a few (three to four) times or up to many thousands of times. The liquid dilution is then used itself as a remedy or soaked into tablets or granules for convenience. The diluted remedies are described as being 'potentized', in recognition of the dynamic healing power.

How does Ayurveda differ from conventional medicine?

Very simply, Ayurveda attempts to stimulate the body to recover itself. Let's look at an example: the common cough.

First, we must accept that all symptoms, no matter how uncomfortable they are, represent the body's attempt to restore itself to health. Instead of looking upon the symptoms as something wrong which must be set right, we see them as signs of the way the body is attempting to help itself. Instead of trying to stop the cough with suppressants, as conventional medicine does, a person will give a remedy that will

cause a cough in a healthy person, and thus stimulate the ill body to restore itself.
Second, we must look at the totality of the symptoms presented. We each experience a cough in our unique way. Yet conventional medicine acts as if all coughs were alike. It therefore offers a series of suppressive drugs something to suppress the cough, something to dry the mucus, something to lower the histamine level, something to ease falling asleep.
Ayurveda, on the other hand, looks for the one substance that will cause similar symptoms in a healthy person. The person with a cough characterized by being worse when breathing cold air, and sounding like a deep bark, will need a quite different remedy than the person whose cough is loose in the morning, dry in the evening, and better when sitting up in bed. We characterize both as "coughs" but they are different illnesses in the individuals, and therefore require different homeopathic treatment.
In conventional medical thought, health is seen simply as the absence of disease. You assume that you are healthy if there is nothing wrong with you. To a person versed in Ayurveda, health is much more than that. A healthy person is a person who is free on all levels: physical, emotional, and mental. Obviously, a person with a broken leg is not free, on the physical level, to move around. But on a more subtle level, a person who cannot eat certain foods or is allergic to certain materials is also experiencing a lack of freedom. It is a good emotional release to cry at a "tear jerker" movie, but someone who continues to cry for several weeks afterwards is experiencing a lack of freedom on the emotional level. Likewise, a person who cannot absorb what he has read or cannot remember day to day appointments is experiencing a restriction on the mental level. The homeopath recognizes such limitations and attempts, through the use of the properly selected remedies, to restore the person to health and freedom.

An important basic difference exists between conventional medical therapy and Ayurveda. In conventional therapy, the aim often is to control the illness through regular use of medical substances, even if the medication is nothing more than vitamins. If the medication is withdrawn, however, the person returns to illness. There has been no cure. A person who takes a pill for high blood pressure every day is not undergoing a cure but is only controlling the symptoms. Homeopathy's aim is the cure: "The complete restoration of perfect health," as Dr. Samuel Hahneman said.

Why is it so popular?
  • Ayurvedictreatment works with your body's own healing powers to bring health and well being.
  • Patients are treated as individuals, not as a collection of disease labels.
  • Ayurveda treats all your symptoms - mental, emotional and physical.

Ayurvedic remedies are gentle, subtle and powerful.

Why is it mandatory to pay upfront?
The sole objective of this is to ensure patients compliance. World Health Organization tell us that in another few years, non compliance of the patients to their treatment will become the single most important reason failure of most treatments. Over the years we have seen that patients committed to their treatment from the very first day improve much faster as compared to the patients who so not similarly commit to their treatment. This is probably because the committed group is clear in their minds about having to take medication for a certain time period and therefore do so much more regularly with much better results.

Does Familycare treat only hair skin disorders?
Absolutely not. It is just that hair and skin problems attract more attention as they are visible in their symptoms. We treat a lot of patients for respiratory disorders, stress, stomach disorders, migraines, thyroid, allergies, children disorders and so on. The list is endless. All our doctors are trained in providing effective treatment for these chronic diseases.

Will my condition revert to square one after stopping treatment?
Once again no. If you have continued your medication regularly and stop it only after the doctors advice, there are very few chances that your condition will revert to it earlier position.

Will the medicine suit me? /Are there any side effects? / Are there any difficult to follow dietary or other guidelines?
One of the greatest advantages of these medications is that there are absolutely no side effects of the treatment. The dietary guidelines and exercises are so designed that any average person can follow them without any major disruption to their lifestyle. We place a great emphasis on making the treatment easy to follow, because that in turn ensures greater patient compliance. All our doctors are trained in providing effective treatment for these chronic diseases.
